Nude recreation to be banned at San Onofre State Beach.

Victory - At Least for Now
Friends of San Onofre Update:

On August 27, Judge Shelia Fell issued her FINAL ruling on nudity at San Onofre State Beach. This ruling affirms the fact that nudity is legal at Trail 6 (and all other traditional clothing optional areas within the State Parks) unless a complaint is received from a member of the public. Also, the ruling affirms that the Department must conduct public hearings in accordance with the Administrative Procedures Act prior to making any changes in its enforcement policy regarding nudity within the State Parks.

This victory was achieved by the work of the Friends of San Onofre and the Naturist Action Committee. Though this challenge to our freedom was won, the California Department of Parks and Recreation still may appeal the decision, or attempt to close this section of the beach to nude use by following the Administrative Procedures Act which requires public hearings before changes can be made in public policy.  There is only one way to once and for all preserve our freedom to enjoy nude beaches. That way is to have areas legally designated for nude use. These areas must have the same level of service and protection that clothed areas have.

For over 30 years the beach at the bottom of Trail 6 at San Onofre StateBeach has been recognized as a legitimate place for nude recreation.It is a fabulous,remote beach location. In May the director of California State Parks decreed that after Labor Day weekend,2008, nude recreation would no longer be permitted, and that citations will be issued to people found to be in violation.

We should be at a point in this country where we recognize that nude recreation is a legitimate use of designated public lands. Yet, instead
of providing more areas for this form of recreation,government
bureacrats, offended by the human body in it's naked form, are taking actions to even further reduce the number of places where one can recreate in the nude. This is about freedom.

Write Governor Schwarzenegger. Ask him to do two things:
1. Tell the bureaucrats to leave the nude people alone at San Onofre.
2. Intiate action to create designated areas within the
state park system for nude recreation.
